I always associate rock cakes with Sunday afternoons. When I was small we used to visit my great aunt and she always had a supply of rock cakes for us. Now my mum makes them with the grandchildren and they are a particular favourite with our boys. Mum's ones have a very good reputation in our house, so Mary had a lot to live up to!As it was Sunday afternoon, and I actually had the ingredients in the cupboard, I thought they were worth a try.
Unfortunately the verdict was "not as good as Nanny's"! Mary's rock cakes only scored 6.
They looked nice, and were a sensible size (although some people thought they were too small -
Nanny's are bigger!) but they seemed to lack flavour. We all agreed that the recipe needs Mixed spice.

The last time I made these was in Domestic Science at school! I'm sure the addition of mixed spice would be an improvement, and they have to be large, otherwise they're pebbles!
